چکیده

This paper discusses the advantages and drawbacks of automobile computer systems, especially with respect to dependability. We consider two aspects: specification and validation of dependability objectives, and definition of dependable hardware and software architectures. The second aspect is discussed in more detail, focusing on the integration of the different subsystems into a global computer system. Different architectures are compared, taking into account the real-time environment, the logical and physical distribution of hardware and software, the allocation of functions to the subsystems and the communication between sensors, controllers and actuators. We argue that a global approach to dependability will be necessary to cope with the awaited functional integration.

Improving Dependability of Embedded Software Systems using Fault Bypass Modeling (FBM)

Fault injection techniques are important and widely used for verifying the dependability of computer systems. Traditionally fault injection has been successfully applied for evaluating dependability of hardware electronics and is now increasingly been used for software systems. At the same time increasing complexity of embedded software systems such as in automotive sector has driven these doma...

First ERCIM Workshop on Software - Intensive

In dependable embedded systems, currently each application function is assigned to a separate ECU (embedded control unit). Multi-tier supply chains as in automotive industry even enforce this approach to protect the IPs (Intellectual Property) of each supplier. With growing complexity of distributed systems and expanding functionality, this approach tends to become critical because of integrati...

Re nement Based Methods for the Construction of Dependable Systems Dagstuhl Seminar

With our growing reliance on computers, the total societal costs of their failures are hard to underestimate. Nowadays computers control critical systems from various domains such as aerospace, automotive, railway, business etc. Obviously, such systems must have a high degree of dependability a degree of trust that can be justi ably placed on them. Although the currently operating systems do ha...

Dependability Evaluation of a Simple Mechatronic System Using Coloured Petri Nets

Mechatronic automotive systems are hybrid systems. Modelling and simulation of the interactions between continuous and discrete parts is essential to evaluate dependability. In this paper we show how a simple mechatronic system can be modelled in the CPN formalism. Quantitative dependability evaluation is obtained thanks to MonteCarlo simulation. We use the DesignCPN Occurrence Graph tool to va...
